Every summer, Carol has a two-week vacation. She usually travels a lot during her vacation and visits new places. Last August she was in Europe. Europe was very beautiful, but her vacation wasn’t very nice. She visited four countries and was in each country only three days. She visited too many museums and was always in a hurry. Carol was on the train or on a bus almost every day. After her vacation she was tired and bored.
This summer, she is going to spend her vacation in a different way. She is going to travel with a friend to one country, and visit only one city. They are going to choose a city on the beach so that they can go swimming every day. This year Carol isn’t going to feel tired after her vacation. She is going to feel happy.
Every living thing has an inner
biological clock that controls behavior. The clock works all the time; even when
there are no outside signs to mark the passing of time. The biological clock
tells plants when to form flowers and when the flowers should open. It tells
insects when to leave the protective cocoon and fly away. And it tells animals
when to eat, sleep and wake. It controls body temperature, the release of some
hormones and even dreams. These natural daily events are circadian
rhythms. Man has known about them for thousands of years. But the first scientific observation of circadian rhythms was not made until 1729. In that year a French astronomer, Jean Jacques d’Ortous de Mairan, noted that one of his plants opened its leaves at the same time every morning, and closed them at the same time every night. The plant did th A. every creature has an inner biological clock. B. the biological clock works day and night. C. the biological clock has circadian rhythms. D. the biological clock regulates behavior of creatures. [简答题]Every human society has its own particular culture, or sociocultural system, which overlaps to some extent with other systems. Variation among sociocultural systems is attributable to physical habitats and resources; to the range of possibilities inherent in various areas of activity, such as language, rituals and customs, and the manufacture and use of tools, and to the degree of social development. Adaptation and change take place within and among cultures by means of ecological and environmental changes.
