M: Could I speak to Mr. Smith, please
W: Sorry, he is not in at work these days. He went to Paris on business last Tuesday and he won’ t be back until next Monday.
Could I have your attention please Thank you.
As I told you this morning, this afternoon is our shopping afternoon. If you have a look at the back page of your tour programme, you’ll see a little map of the city centre, with the names of some of the shops marked. As you won’t have too much time, I’m just going to explain to you what they sell.
We’re now in the Friendship Shopping Centre. On your right is Larp’s, a very good place for shoes and boots, rather than gloves, bags clothes or others. Opposite that is Li Ning, a good place for sports goods, not cheap, but really pretty. Next door to Li Ning is a place for books. They have got books on almost every subject anyone has ever written about, airplanes to animals, but Chinese only--so none of your English books I’m afraid. W: Could I see the Manager, please I have a complaint.
M: Can I help you, madam
W: Yes. The toilet doesn’ t flush properly; the water doesn’t run away in the shower; and there’ s no extra service. What have you to say to that
M: I’ m sorry to hear that. I’ll attend to it right away.
W: That’ s no way to run a hotel.
M: No, madam. I do apologize. It’ s most unusual. The housekeeper usually checks every room before new guests move in. we’ ve been very busy with a large conference.
W: Oh, terrible, anyhow, one doesn’ t expect this sort of thing in a well - run hotel.
M: We’ re awfully sorry. Is there anything else
W: I’ d like an extra pillow.
M: Sally! Sally! Could you please turn off the radio I hate to have to say this, but it’s too noisy here.
W: What But...
M: You know I’m reading my books and I’m preparing for my English exam this afternoon.
W: I know that. But I’m not listening to the radio. The noise comes from our neighbours upstairs.
M: Oh! How terrible! I’ll talk to them and let them be quiet!
