Bidirectional Communication
Bidirectional communication refers to a unique connection between parents and their children. The parents-child relationship can be described as a constant back and forth. Parents can influence children; children can also influence parents; they change each other. These bidirectional influences affect parent-child attachment over a lifetime. For example, when infants are born, they attach to their parents. However, parents’ baby talks and messages of love do as much to enhance their own attachment to the child as the child’s attachment to them.
Question: The professor gives an experience to illustrate the definition of "bidirectional communication" between parents and their babies. Explain how this example is related to the reading passage.
