Passage One
For more than thirty years after
astronauts first set foot on the Moon, scientists have been unable to unravel
the mystery of where the Earth’s only satellite came from. But now there is
direct evidence that the Moon was born after a giant collision between the young
Earth and another planet. Previous studies of rocks from the
Earth and the Moon have been unable to distinguish between the two, suggesting
that they formed from the same material. But this still left room for a number
of theories explaining how—for example, that the Moon and Earth formed from the
same material at the same time. It was even suggested that the early Earth spun
so fast it formed a bulge that eventually broke off to form the Moon.
Franck Poitrasson, and his colleagues at the Swiss Federal Institute of
Technology have compared Moon rocks with A. the differences between the Earth and the Moon B. how man manages to set foot onto the Moon C. the collision between the Earth and the Moon D. the origin of the Moon

More than three years after moving from
Australia to this remote part of England, we are still learning how things are
done here. Not too long after we arrived and unpacked, we were
invited for "a drink on Sunday morning" by a retired couple nearby. We got there
about noon, to find the living-room crowded—lots of chat and discussions, and on

little woman makes no plans to cook lunch because you are eating out.
By one-fifteen my stomach was sending up "please explain" to me. Even the
crisps had gone. There was nothing we could do except wait, an A. (A) the only people there B. (B) given lunch as well C. (C) taken to a restaurant for lunch D. (D) asked to take some food with them

At first, doctors in the West thought that this was just another kind of magic. Recently, however, they have found out that it is possible to cure many illnesses like this because the needles help the body to produce its own "medicines". In this way the body cures itself.
Nowadays doctors can do a lot of wonderful things. They can use thousands of medicines. They can give you pills and injections. They can even give you mechanical legs or a new heart. Sometimes modern medicine works like magic. But there are still a lot of illnesses that drugs and machines cannot cure completely. Medicine is not only a sc
