As the 21st century begins, a number of leaders in politics, education, and other professions believe that the United States must adopt some new values to go along with the older traditional ones. What new values should Americans adopt This is a very difficult question to answer. Certainly, a greater value should be placed on the conservation of natural resources; Americans should learn to use less and waste less. In addition, Americans may need to place a strong value on cooperation on a national scale to achieve important national objectives. The American idea of the national good has never been based on national cooperation but rather on the freedom of the individual, maintaining those conditions that provide the greatest freedom and prosperity for the individual. It is far more difficult for Americans to accept shared sacrifice for the common good and well-being of the entire country. For example, although the majority of Americans believe that it is extremely important
A. They should use less and waste less.
B. They should try to help the developing countries with the conversation of resources.
C. They should raise money in order to protect the natural resources.
D. They should be united as one to fight against the destruction of forests.

Demographic indicators show that Americans in the postwar
period were more eager than ever to establish families. They quickly
brought down the age at marriage for both men and women and brought
the birth rate to a twentieth century height after more than a hundred (1)
years of a steady decline, producing the “baby boom.”These young (2)
adults established a trend of early marriage and relatively large
families that Went for more than two decades and caused a major (3)

the 1940S through the early 1960s, Americans married at a high rate (4)
and at a younger age than their Europe counterparts.(5)
Less noted but equally more significant, the men and women on who(6)

divorce rate after a postwar peak; t
