My grandfather used to have a beautiful gold pocket watch. He wore it on a fine gold chain across the front of his waistcoat, and when I was small he promised to leave it to me in his will.
"When I’ m gone," he said, "this is going to be yours."
Unfortunately that will never happen now. About three months ago, my grandfather came up to London to visit us. The first Sunday morning after he arrived, my youngest son said he wanted to go to the park.
"We’ll do better than that," said my grandfather, "we’ll go and feed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square." So off they went. They got home about teatime and my grandfather was looking very upset.
"My watch," he said, "it’ s gone. Someone must have stolen it while we were feeding the pigeons."

New York, London, Paris and other big cities are exciting places to live in. There are many interesting things to see and to do. You can go to different kinds of museums, plays and films. You can also go to shopping centers to buy things from all over the world.
But there are serious problems in big cities too. The cost of living is high, and there are too many people in some places of big cities. Every year many people move to big cities because of the chances to find jobs, to study at schools, and to receive good medical care. But sometimes these people cannot find work or a good place to live in. Also, too many people in a small space make it hard to keep the cities safe and clean.
Some people enjoy living in big cities. Others do not. Before people move to a big city, they should think about the possible problems of living there.
